Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive, Settle In, and Head Into the Jungle After Dark

Check in at Khao Sok Jungle Hostel from 2:00 p.m. The afternoon is yours to explore Khao Sok town, grab food from a local restaurant, or add an optional activity such as bamboo rafting, canoeing, or the Elephant Bath Experience at the Khao Sok Elephant Conservation Centre.

At 6:30 p.m., your night safari begins. A local guide leads you into Khao Sok National Park after dark, when the forest is most active. You have a real chance of spotting hornbills roosting, various reptiles, and nocturnal mammals that are rarely seen during daylight hours. The safari runs until 8:30 p.m., with a 200 THB national park entry fee paid on the day.

Back at the hostel by 10:00 p.m. – an early night is worth it for what comes next.

Day 2 – Transfer to Cheow Lan Lake and Into the Floating Bungalows

Breakfast is served between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. at the hostel. At 9:00 a.m., the minivan transfers you toward Cheow Lan Lake, stopping at a local market near a 7-Eleven at around 10:30 a.m. – a good chance to pick up snacks or cash from the ATM.

By 11:30 a.m you board a long-tail boat and head out onto the lake. Cheow Lan Lake sits inside Khao Sok National Park and is one of the most visually striking bodies of water in Southeast Asia. The lake is surrounded by limestone karst formations rising directly out of emerald green water – a landscape that earns it the nickname “Guilin of Thailand”.

Your accommodation for the night is Krisorn Floating Bungalows, a floating bamboo-style raft house in the middle of the lake with simple shared bathroom facilities. After checking in and having lunch at 12:30 p.m., the afternoon is free for swimming and kayaking on the lake.

At 3:00 p.m., the group visits Bang Hoi Waterfall, a natural waterfall accessible by a short jungle walk from the lake’s edge. Water cascades down limestone rock in small levels, worth the walk even in the dry season. Dinner is served at the floating bungalows at 6:30 p.m.

Day 3 – Sunrise on the Lake, Cave Exploration, and Back to Khao Sok

Wake up early. At 7:00 a.m., a long-tail boat takes the group out for a sunrise wildlife-spotting ride on the lake. The mist sits low over the water in the early morning, and the limestone cliffs catch the light differently at this hour. Keep an eye out for crab-eating macaques, hornbills, and kingfishers along the shoreline.

Breakfast at 8:30 a.m., then check out at 9:00 a.m. At 9:30 a.m., the group visits Pra Kai Petch Cave, a limestone cave featuring stalactites, stalagmites, and colonies of bats. When lit, the rock formations reflect and sparkle; it is a genuinely impressive stop.

At 11:00 a.m., the boat passes the “Guilin of Thailand” viewpoint, the most photographed spot on the lake, where the limestone cliffs reflect in the calm water below. Boat transfer back to the pier at 11:20 a.m., a packed lunch stop at a scenic viewpoint at 11:40 a.m., and the minivan returns to Khao Sok by 2:00 p.m.

What to Pack for a Khao Sok Overnight Lake Tour

Packing light is the right call for this Khao Sok overnight tour. You will be moving between a hostel, a minivan, a long-tail boat, and a floating bungalow over three days.

  • Lightweight clothing – quick-dry fabrics work best in the humidity
  • Swimwear: you will want it at the lake and waterfall
  • Comfortable walking shoes for the night safari and cave visit
  • Flip-flops or sandals for the floating bungalows and boat
  • Dry bag or waterproof phone pouch: essential on the long-tail boat
  • Sunscreen and insect repellent
  • Personal medication
  • Cash: ATM stop on Day 2 is available, but carry enough for park fees and extras
  • Small backpack only: avoid large suitcases, as they are impractical on boats and at the floating bungalows

National Park Fees and Pier Fees: What to Expect

A common point of confusion for first-time visitors to this Khao Sok 3 days 2 nights tour is the national park fee structure. Here is the clear breakdown:

  • Night Safari (Day 1): 200 THB national park entry fee per person, paid at the park gate
  • Cheow Lan Lake (Day 2): 300 THB national park entry fee per person, paid at the pier on the second day.
  • Pier fee (Day 2): 40 THB per person, paid at the pier on the second day.

These fees go directly to the Thai National Park Authority and are standard for all visitors, regardless of which operator you book through.

Best Time to Do This Tour

This Khao Sok 3 days 2 nights package runs year-round, but conditions vary by season.

  • November to April is the dry season. The skies are clearer, the lake water is calmer, and visibility is better for photography and boat rides. This is high season, so we recommend booking in advance.
  • May to October is the wet season. The forest is denser and greener, and wildlife activity increases. Waterfalls can be seen during this period if there has been sufficient rainfall, though this is not guaranteed. Occasional rain should be expected, but tours run throughout.

Add More to Your Khao Sok Tour Package

The afternoon of Day 1 is free time, when most guests add an optional activity before the night safari. All add-ons are bookable directly through Khao Sok Jungle Hostel.

  • Bamboo Rafting: 800 THB per person. Float down the river on handmade bamboo rafts built by local villagers. Two time slots: 2:30 p.m. or 3:30 p.m.
  • Canoeing: 800 THB per person. Paddle along Khlong Sok at your own pace. Departs at 3:00 p.m.
  • Elephant Bath Experience: 1,200 THB per person. An ethical, hands-on encounter at the Khao Sok Elephant Conservation Centre. Departs at 3:00 p.m. No riding, no performances.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is there electricity or Wi-Fi at the floating bungalows on Cheow Lan Lake?

A: Krisorn Floating Bungalows have limited electricity. There is no Wi-Fi on the lake. Mobile signal is minimal to none, depending on your carrier. Most guests find the disconnection is part of the appeal – plan accordingly and download offline maps or entertainment before you leave Khao Sok.

Q: What happens to my main luggage during the lake tour?

A: You can store your main bags at Khao Sok Jungle Hostel free of charge while you are at the lake. Bring only what you need for the overnight stay in a small backpack, as large suitcases are not practical on long-tail boats and the floating bungalows. Please keep valuable items with you, as only guests who book tour packages with us can store valuables at the hostel.

Q: Is this tour suitable for families or solo travelers?

A: The Khao Sok overnight lake tour is well-suited to solo travelers who want a structured itinerary without having to coordinate everything independently. For families, this tour may not be the best fit as it includes a hostel stay on the first night. We recommend considering the 2-day, 1-night tour as a more family-friendly alternative.

Q: Can I book this tour without staying at Khao Sok Jungle Hostel?

A: This specific product includes accommodation at Khao Sok Jungle Hostel as part of the package. If you are already staying elsewhere in Khao Sok, the 2 Days 1 Night Cheow Lan Lake tour or the Full Day Tour may be a better fit. Get in touch and we can help you find the right option.

Q: What is the difference between the 3-day tour and the other Cheow Lan Lake packages? A: The Khao Sok 3 days 2 nights tour is the most

comprehensive option. It includes a hostel stay, a guided night safari, two full days on the lake, a cave visit, a sunrise wildlife boat ride, and 5 meals. The 2 Days 1 Night package covers just the lake portion. The Full Day Tour is a single-day visit with no overnight stay. If you want to experience both the rainforest and the lake properly, the 3-day package is the one to book.

Q: Can I add extra activities to this tour?

A: Yes. Bamboo Rafting (800 THB), Canoeing (800 THB), and the Elephant Bath Experience (1,200 THB) can all be added at the time of booking. These take place on the afternoon of Day 1 before the night safari. Select your preferred add-ons when booking online or contact us directly.
